The New Editor of Cultured Cities Magazine
Cultured Cities Magazine is proud to introduce its new Editor, Tom Handy—a seasoned writer, investor, and leader whose diverse background brings a fresh and meaningful perspective to the publication. With a career rooted in discipline, storytelling, and strategic thinking, Tom steps into this role with a clear vision: to elevate the magazine through impactful narratives while supporting the growth of the communities and businesses it represents.
Based in El Paso, Texas, Tom resides with his wife, who serves in the education system, and their two children. Family remains central to his life, and much of his professional journey has been shaped by a desire to create both stability and freedom—values that now influence his editorial direction.
Tom’s career began with two decades of service in the United States Army, spanning from 1996 to 2016. It was during this time that he not only developed leadership skills but also discovered his passion for writing. Early in his military career, he was tasked with producing reports and articles on behalf of the Army, which quickly evolved into writing for military newspapers and magazines. His talent and attention to detail led to his role assisting as an editor for an Army publication—an experience that laid the foundation for his future in media.
While serving, Tom also began building his financial acumen. Encouraged by a mentor early on, he started studying investing within his first year in the military. What began with a modest investment fund and IRA soon expanded into international markets and eventually real estate. Over time, Tom cultivated a deep understanding of finance and wealth-building strategies, creating a portfolio that allows him the flexibility to prioritize time with his family while continuing to pursue his professional passions.
Academically, Tom holds a degree in Political Science with a minor in English—an ideal combination that complements both his analytical mindset and his ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity. Although he always envisioned becoming a business owner, he was intentional about how he approached that goal. Having witnessed firsthand the demands of entrepreneurship through his mother’s experience owning both a restaurant and a dry-cleaning business, Tom understood the sacrifices required to maintain a traditional brick-and-mortar operation. He chose instead to build a life centered on scalable investments and professional flexibility.
In 2020, Tom expanded his writing career beyond the military, launching his own blog and contributing to various online platforms. Through this work, he refined his voice and broadened his audience, focusing on topics that intersect with business, finance, and everyday life.
As the new Editor of Cultured Cities Magazine, Tom brings a commitment to substance and authenticity. His goal is to deliver stories that not only inform, but resonate—content that reflects real experiences, offers practical insight, and adds value to readers’ lives. At the same time, he is dedicated to helping businesses grow by providing them with a platform that highlights their impact and connects them with a wider audience.
With Tom Handy at the editorial helm, Cultured Cities Magazine enters an exciting new chapter—one defined by depth, purpose, and a continued celebration of the people and stories that shape our communities.
